My Family Photoshoot Experience
If you’re anything like me, you cherish every moment with your little ones (well, most of the time. I could live without the occasional tantrum…) and capturing those moments in photographs is an absolute must. But let’s be real, while I have a phone FULL of photos of the kids playing together, seeing new things and being really natural, none of them are worthy of printing big and putting up on my lounge wall. And in our family, I’m the one with the camera in hand! So I’m not in the photos… I may as well not exist!
I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to do it properly. Book a professional family photoshoot and have all of us in a picture. At the same time. Looking the same way. And (hopefully) all looking good!
As the day of our photoshoot approached, I was equal parts excited and anxious. Trying to get my three to do as they are told, at the same time, can sometimes be like herding cats. Was I expecting a miracle from our photographer?!
First off, let’s talk about my worries. I had a million questions swirling in my mind. How would the kids behave? Would they smile naturally, or would they all adopt that toothy grimace that is part scary and part annoying, when they were asked to smile? What on earth should we all wear? And don’t even get me started on what to bring along!
But let me tell you, our experience with Jade, our family photographer in Belfast, was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we walked in, she put all our worries to rest. With three little rascals in tow (aged 10, 6, and 2), I was expecting chaos, but our photographer handled it like a pro.
One of my biggest concerns was how she’d manage to coax genuine smiles out of our kids. But she had this magic touch, a bag full of tricks that had them giggling and beaming in no time. Whether it was silly jokes, funny faces, or just her natural warmth, she had a knack for capturing those authentic, joyful moments. Towards teh end of the session, our youngest got a bit tired and threatened a tantrum, but Jade anticipated this and gave him a perfectly-timed snack break. She is brilliant with kids!
And can we talk about her talent behind the lens? Wow! Each shot she took was like a work of art. She knew exactly how to frame us, capturing the love and connection between our family effortlessly. From playful candid shots to more posed portraits, every image was stunning.
Plus, she was a lifesaver when it came to wardrobe advice. Gone were the days of agonizing over color schemes and outfit coordination. She had fantastic suggestions that not only looked great on camera but also reflected our family’s personality.
As for what to bring, well, she made that easy too. With a few simple props fro her collection and some of our kids’ favourite toys, she managed to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere that kept everyone engaged, without getting them over excited and revved into a frenzy!
But perhaps the best part of all was how fantastic she was with the kids. Patient, kind, and full of energy, she made the whole experience a breeze. Our little ones felt comfortable and at ease around her, which really showed through in the photos.
